Oh well! Anther trip for my 8816 is in store for less than a year after my last.

This time all odd numbered input channels distort and level is reduced. Output works as expected. My local repair is: http://www.lselectronics.net if anyone is interested. They are good if a little slow.

Anyone actually tried the FireWire audio option? How is the sound quality compared to the analog outputs?

Like a lot of Pro Tools HD users I'm trying to weigh my options with an alternative but as a temporary solution I could at least replace my soon-to-be no longer supported 192 I/Os IF the Neve FireWire audio sounds good enough AND it can actually communicate with Pro Tools.

Anyone tried it?

Thanks

We recently updated the Neve Genesys to Version 3.3 Build 2. This could be coincidental but, there is now a strange sound coming from the back of the console near the computer cassette. The best way to describe it is that it sounds like a slightly leaky toilet. By that I mean, when the toilet has a a small leak inside the tank can never quite fill up and is constantly running. Not a huge leak, but a small one.

The sound is quite audible. You can hear it easily in the control room. It's been going for about a week now and is driving me mad.

Is the computer card about to die? Is there some strange bug in the upgrade making the fans go strange?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Guy, thanks for the post. The 88D is very configurable so there are many options! The 'standard' 88D supports 96K, if you get in touch with me via email (james.townend@ams-neve.com) I can get someone to contact you and go through the options available.

Thanks again.

Hi, thanks for the extra information. You are correct that booting in 32-bit kernel mode is a workaround for the time being. I am pleased to say that after talking to the Software R&D Team that a 64-bit kernel compatible version of the software is currently in development, and I'll post on this forum when it is released.

I have the same issue. I contacted support to let them know of the issue.

The new macs (westmere) run in 64 bit by default…apparently, the software will only work in 32bit.

If you want to use it just restart your computer and hold down #'s 3 and 2….save/load from recall…then restart again in 64bit if you want.

To be honest, I've just reverted to using manual recall sheets until they release a new version of the software (hopefully soon!)

If anyone has any advice on using the EQ to Sidechain/De-esser function, that would be greatly appreciated. There is very little info on settings for obtaining usable results. When reading reveiws, one reviewer stated to use both Hi and Low shelves, and crank the gain, while using fast attack and fast release settings... when following these directions, I either get major pumping, artifacts or it is simple ineffective. If anyone has any tips or insight... Or if you guys would like to share any other tricks and tips, that would be cool.

It's unfortunate there is such a lack of information on this piece of equipment, are there any other English speaking user forums on the 8801?

I just spoke to an AVID guy at the german Tonmeistertagung and he confirmed, that Eucon is now released as an open protocol!
I´m still a bit sceptic, because "AVID" and "open" did not fit together very well in the past.

IMHO it´s crucial for AMS NEVE to implement a higher level of controller functionality to rival the Ex-Euphonix consoles.
Our primary interest is controlling Nuendo, but I think Protools9 and Logic will be used widely upon other users.

I have recently de-commissioned my Libra Live and have several parts available if anybody is interested. The parts are all from the Control Surface. Master section, 8 fader packs(48 Faders), EQ-Compressor-Aux section and so on. Good for spares etc. Console was manufactured in 2002.

I also have a MIOS Rack stuffed with 4 Channel Pre-Amps and the 8-channel surround speaker driver.

If anyone wants the meter bridge let me know immediately before it gets gone...
